A Worldcon is five full days of activities celebrating science fiction and fantasy, bringing together thousands of fans, writers, artists, editors and scientists from around the world. In addition to big events such as the Hugo Award Ceremony and the Masquerade, a Worldcon features hundreds of hours of panels and presentations. CoNZealand will have programme items and activities around a wide range of topics from art to gaming to writing and everything in-between, all within the lens of science fiction/fantasy. Unique to CoNZealand, we will have programming about New Zealand, New Zealand SF and the National SF convention, Pasifika, and SF in the Pacific Rim. Our programme formats range from small group items (10 people) to large panels/presentations for hundreds of attendees. CoNZealand will start around noon on Wednesday, July 29 and end around 4pm on Sunday, August 2.
Unlike some conventions you may have attended, your membership fee includes all activities and exhibits. A small number of items (usually workshops) may have a materials fee.
It takes dozens of people from around the world months to build a Worldcon schedule and we are all volunteers. So a detailed schedule will not be available until early in July. But, in the meantime, check this page for general information about Events, special items with our Guests of Honor, and who have confirmed their appearance at CoNZealand.
Our main Events will take place on the following days:
- Wednesday – Opening Ceremonies
- Thursday – To Be Announced
- Friday – Masquerade
- Saturday – Hugo Awards Ceremony
- Sunday – Closing Ceremonies
There will also be Retro Hugo awards, and various NZ Natcon items including the Sir Julius Vogel Awards, dates and times to be determined.
