Getting to Wellington

Is your flight booked through to Wellington?

If you booked through to Wellington, your airline should have allowed plenty of time for you to get to the domestic terminal.

You will need to collect your luggage and go through Customs and Immigration in Auckland, even if your luggage is checked through to Wellington.

If your luggage is checked through to Wellington, once you have cleared Customs, take it to the transit desk in the main check-in hall at the International terminal and they will see it onto your next flight for you. Note: sometimes if your transit time is too short, you will need to take it to the Domestic terminal yourself. Your airline will be able to advise you on this on arrival into Auckland.

If your luggage is not checked through already, you will need to take it to the Domestic terminal to check in for your domestic flight to Wellington.

The Domestic terminal serves both Air New Zealand and Virgin Australia for flights within New Zealand. It is a 10 minute walk from the International terminal, or you can take the free shuttle buses that come roughly every 10-15 minutes.

If you arrive in Auckland first, you will not need to clear Customs in Wellington, just collect your luggage and head out into the city!

Uber is available, and there is a bus (the Airport Flyer, route 91) that runs into central Wellington, very close to our venues. Please note that you will need cash to buy a ticket on either of the buses – you can’t use a credit card; but you can use a credit card in a taxi or shuttle.

For the Michael Fowler Centre, get off at Stop 5515, at the intersection of Manners and Cuba Streets – ask the driver to let you know when you’re there. Walk north along Cuba Street for 200m and the Michael Fowler Centre is in front of you. Anyone will be able to give you directions.

For the Intercontinental, get off at Stop 5010, the Cable Car, on Cuba Street. Cross the road and walk down Grey Street for about 150m.

For TSB Arena/Shed 6, head for the Intercontinental then keep walking in the same direction. Cross the main road (Customhouse Quay) and the Arena is easy to find. Again, anyone would be able to give you directions.
